The Future is Bright now and "Indy" Looks Forward to each New Day
When a nearby animal facility in NE Washington closed this outstanding horse was moved into a nightmare. He arrived at a fraudulent rescue in good weight and health (below is a picture of him prior to being moved). It is believed that needy horses brought there were kept starved to bring in donations which were then use to feed/care for several privately owned breeding horses at the location. During the 9 months Indy was on that property he must have watched many horses die. Local folks told of often seeing dead horses at the location when they drove by.  Also many horses were led away never to return. According to neighbors some horses were “shot and left in the gully for coyote bait”. Luckily for Indy his fate was different. After public outcry local law enforcement had no choice but to address the situation there and this great creature was signed over/surrendered to BHHR. He was loaded into a very nice horse trailer with his 3 friends and on the way to a much better life.

Indy was examined by a veterinarian and farrier at BHHR's expense and the reports provided to Law Enforcement for their use. The reports included a long list of indications the horse was neglected and/or abused including but not limited to:
“Front feet have a lot of scars” “the left is the worse and the whole foot is in worse shape” “left foreleg is permanently turned out from the knee down” “tail is matted and needs to be cut off below the end” “wounds outside the right hock” “fly eggs all over him” “a good 200 pounds underweight” “halter marks on his face and fence scar wounds on his chest”. The vet also warned us to use caution transporting him in his emaciated condition. So Indy will be joining his friends at the main BHHR facility after he gains a bit more weight and strength.

The pictures of Indy when we first got him are disturbing but look at his picture above. His eyes are bright and he is happy, energetic, and getting healthier with each New Day.

Before he went to the NE WA "rescue"
that starved & neglected him for 9 months
He was hungry & hurting
His life was saved on September 23, 2015
